Google CEO says 'no' to Obama cabinet position  The latest news reports suggest that Eric Schmidt, Google Inc. chief executive officer won’t take a technology post in President-elect Barack Obama’s cabinet. In a TV interview conducted on Friday, Schmidt declined such a post.

During the campaign for the presidency, Obama said, “I would create a cabinet post similar to a chief technology officer to advice on tech issues.” Some watchers claimed to have seen Schmidt, a strong supporter of Obama, most likely with the motive to be tapped for that post.

Microsoft, Verizon near deal on internet search for phones New York  - US software giant Microsoft could become the default internet search provider on Verizon Wireless mobile phones as both companies move closer to an agreement, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

The deal involves a revenue-sharing model between Microsoft and Verizon from advertisements shown in response to internet searches made on cellphones. This would guarantee Verizon payments of approximately 550 million dollars to 650 million dollars over five years, the report said.

Syria foreign minister: Israel bombs source of uranium traces

Syria MapDamascus - Syria's foreign minister said uranium traces found at an alleged nulcear facility by the United Nations nuclear watchdog may have been left by Israeli warplanes that attacked the site.

"No one has ever asked himself what kind of Israeli bombs had hit the site, and what they contained," the Syrian minister said, stating that Israel had bombs containing depleted uranium, such as used by the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Walid al-Moallem described as politically motivated the news leaks about the traces found at the site which was bombed by Israel in September 2007.

IBM regional executive director visits Dubai University

IBMDubai, Nov. 12th, 2008 --President of Dubai University Dr Mohammed Omar Hefni, discussed today in Dubai with IBM Executive Director in Europe, the Middle East and Africa Larry Hurst, ways of boosting cooperation between the two sides.

Hefni welcomed the visit, which he described as important in regard to the technological relations between the university and company. The visit came in the wake of the agreement signed between Dubai University and IBM Company. As per this agreement, the staff received hi tech training.
