Microsoft’s local mapping service for 9 Indian citiesSoftware giant Microsoft, joined by rivals Google and Yahoo, has launched a local mapping service for India, which offers users access to detailed listings and street maps for 9 Cities, business listings across 29 cities, and access to highway networks to 20,000 cities and towns.

Microsoft's India Development Centre (MSIDC) in Hyderabad has developed the first version of the service, on the PC and mobile at http://maps.live.co.in and http://m.live.co.in.

Apple Hires 8,000 Retail Employees In 2008Apple’s retail operation increased two-fold during the existing year (2008).

According to Apple’s recent 10-k annual filing released Wednesday, the company presently has 32,000 people on a full-time basis. The figure was up from 21,600 as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The report also said that around 16,000 of those people work in company’s retail group, which currently has 247 stores.

Apple, in last year's annual report, announced that it had around 8,000 people working in the retail unit, which comprised 197 stores.

AT&T plans broadband caps

AT&T plans broadband caps Recently, it was announced by AT&T that they would introduce data caps for its internet customers. 

The company plans to begin capping users of its slowest at 768 kilobits per second DSL service at 20Gb per month. As the speed of the plan increases up to 150 gigabytes per month at the 10 megabits-per-second level, the limit would increase too. 

In an FCC filing, the company said, "AT&T plans to initiate a broadband Internet access usage trial in Reno, Nevada beginning in November."
