Yahoo, Google revising advertising deal

Yahoo, Google revising advertising deal San Francisco - Yahoo and Google are substantially narrowing their proposed advertising agreement to meet the antitrust concerns of the US Justice Department, according to reports Tuesday by the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.

The new proposal shortens the term of the deal from 10 years to two years, and places a limit on the revenue that Yahoo can generate from Google to 25 per cent of Yahoo's search revenue, the reports said.

Under the deal, Google would place ads next to some Web search results on Yahoo and split the revenue with the ailing web giant.

Brit firms advised to appoint ‘tea task force’ to check water wastage at work

London, November 4 (ANI): A Government body in the UK is urging firms to appoint tea monitors so as to ensure that people do not waste water.

Envirowise, funded by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs, suggests that firms use teapots instead of making individual cups of tea, and try to re-introduce tea urns to the workplace.

The agency is of the opinion that such a step could cut greenhouse gas emissions, and thereby help business houses save money.

Envirowise reckons that more than 30 billion cups of water are unnecessarily boiled each year.

Process of detecting illegal nuclear tests improved

Amsterdam, Nov 4 : Researchers working at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute KNMI has improved the entire process of measuring, analyzing and interpreting infrasound, which would help them detect events that have ‘inaudible’ sounds like illegal nuclear tests.

Sources of infrasound are often large and powerful, like meteors, explosions, ocean waves, storms, volcanoes, avalanches, earthquakes and nuclear tests.

Infrasound is measured with arrays (series) of highly sensitive microbarometers.

TU Delft PhD student Laslo Evers, who works at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute KNMI, has now improved the entire process of measuring, analysing and interpreting infrasound.

How to avoid voting machine errors

Washington, November 4 : A University of Maryland researcher has come up with several recommendations that can enable voters to minimize the chance of election machine-related errors.

Paul S. Herrnson, the University of Maryland political scientist, has revealed that his team’s recommendations are based on a comprehensive study of the problems voters may face while using touch screen and paper-based machines.

"In our experiments, even with the simplest ballot design and the most user-friendly machines, we found voters still cast their ballots for the wrong candidate about three percent of the time," Herrnson says.
