Texas Dad causes Police Standoff to Save Son
George Pickering II took a gun to hospital in January when he found that hospital staff and doctors treating his son were about to put him off life support. The Texas dad was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
This whole case started when in January drunken George Pickering II stormed the Tomball Regional Medical Center in Houston with a gun and demanded access to his son, George III.
George II told Fox 6 that he was very well aware of the fact that he broke the law, but it was broken for a right reason. “It was love. It was love. It’s the duty of a parent to protect your children and that’s all he did. Everything good that made me a man is because of that man sitting next to me”, he said.
George III who has now miraculously recovered was on life support in January after suffering a stroke, and doctors treating him declared ‘brain dead’, George Pickering II told Click 2 Houston.
Hospital staff appointed Pickering's ex-wife and his other son to make decisions for George III, and had alerted an organ donor organization as to his imminent death.
Geroge II said he decided to attack when the hospital approved a ‘terminal wean’. He said he felt hopeless as the hospital staff was moving too fast. He did everything to stop the process.
Pickering grabbed a gun and threatened staff, and asked permission to see his son. He admitted that he was drunk, but he was certain that there was still life left in his son. All he needed was some tome alone with his son.
