Tower of London to undergo £2million facelift

Tower of London to undergo £2million faceliftLondon, Apr 11 : The Tower of London's oldest building is set to undergo a 2 million pounds facelift.

The tower would be enfolded with a giant canvas, which will remain there for three years during the restoration work.

The White Tower was built in the 11th century for William the Conqueror.

A collage of scenes from the 950-year-old White Tower's history will cover its facade until the biggest restoration work undertaken at the castle complex finishes in 2011, reports the Telegraph.

In a bid to find a design to cover the scaffolding, an art student from St Albans Rydal Hanbury has prepared charcoal sketches of ravens, Beefeaters, prisoners and armour.

The White tower will have its east face cleaned this year while its north and west faces will be restored over the following two years.

The 75ft by 50ft wall cover was opened during a ceremony on Apr 10. (ANI)
