Two Indians from Silicon Valley roll out Kosmix search engine
There’s a new search engine out there to compete with Google and Yahoo search services. Kosmix.com, which has been hyped as a Google challenger by the media, is the new search engine that has been recently rolled out in the search engine market, and the people behind it are two Indians from Silicon Valley, Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan.
The founders of Kosmix have claimed that the results of Kosmix are superb that presents information better than Google. Just three-moth-old, Kosmix lets its users search and explore internet, and it dishes out information in the form of relevant videos, photos, news, commentary, opinion, communities related to the searched topic.
The founders of Kosmix – Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan are graduates of IIT Madras and PhDs from Stanford University. They said that would like to call their Kosmix, 'explore engine'.
Speaking of Kosmix, Anand Rajaraman said, “The way we think of ourselves is not so much a search engine but we try to be a personal editor for the topic. Imagine you were interested in a topic and you had a human being compile a page for you so that's what we try to be.”
He added, “When you go to Kosmix and enter Mumbai, we know Mumbai is a place and therefore you may be interested in attractions, the neighborhoods and hotels. So it looks as if it's really intelligent it's really just a smart algorithm.”
According to the Kosmix founders, “the business model of Kosmix is fairly straight forward – its advertising driven. It follows the straight forward model that has been proven by Google. It’s a very lucrative revenue model. Advertising is the only source of Revenue”. However, the Kosmix founders stated that “Kosmix is not a Google challenger”. Kosmix is presently in its beta.
