Islamabad - At least eight people were killed Tuesday in a suspected US drone attack in Pakistan's tribal region bordering Afghanistan, an intelligence official said.

A pilotless aircraft fired three guided missiles in Makeen area of South Waziristan when dozens of people, many of them militants, were gathered for the funeral of the commander killed by another drone attack hours ago.

"Our local sources are saying that eight people have died and around a dozen are injured,' said an area intelligence official. "Most of those killed and injured are Taliban."

Earlier in the day, seven Taliban militants died and six were injured when a drone attack targeted a militant hideout in Makeen, the stronghold of Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud.(dpa)
