We would love to play in Pakistan!

Singer Palash Sen talks about his band Euphoria, their new album and future plans

Music sees no boundaries and if Pakistan invites us for a performance, we would be more than happy to go there, says Palash Sen, lead singer of the popular band ‘Euphoria’. The band was in Vadodara on Saturday for a performance at ‘Footprints 2009’, a fest organised by MSU’s faculty of technology and engineering.

This was the band members’, also known as ‘Dhoomers’, very first visit to the city. Their scintillating journey from Dhoom to Mehfuz has earned it unparalleled fame and recognition in the music industry.

“We have performed in Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot but this is our first time in Vadodara,” says Palash. Euphoria enthralled the audience with a line-up of

its hit numbers like, ‘Phir Dhoom’, ‘Mehfuz’, ‘Euphoria Gully’ and other rocking numbers from films like ‘Rock on’, among others.

When asked if he would still like to go to Pakistan for a performance after the terrorist attacks, Palash says, “Something so beautiful as music cannot be confined to a geographical limit. The recent terrorist attacks on Mumbai have marred the relation between India and Pakistan but music goes beyond prejudice. Pakistan is also fighting terrorism and has its own grudges against us, but if it is still willing to invite us I see no reason why we shouldn’t go.”

The band’s new album is also in the pipeline and is expected to get released sometime around August or September. And why are the albums spaced with an interval of two or three years?

“It actually gives us the time to come up with something new, something the people haven’t heard before. The fact that the audience awaits our album explains our popularity,” he boasts.

About the band Palash says, “It’s a fusion of Hindi-Rock. We use traditional musical instrument like tabla, dholak and sitar and bring it in sync with electric guitar. It gives off a mesmerising effect.

After featuring in Meghna Gulzar’s film ‘Filhaal’ co-starring Tabu and Sushmita Sen, Palash will once again make an appearance on the big screen with Manish Jha’s ‘Mumbai Cutting’, in which he plays a lead role. The film is based on the 2005 Mumbai floods and the background music score is also given by Euphoria. But the singer-turned-actor believes music is more fun than acting.
