Prachanda meets US Deputy Assistant Secretary

Kathmandu, May 27 : Prachanda meets US Deputy Assistant SecretaryCommunist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Chairman Prachanda met visiting US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Dr. Evan A. Feigenbaum.

Nepalnews quoted Prachanda as saying that he discussed issues regarding the Constituent Assembly, the republic declaration and the development programmes with Dr. Feigenbaum.

"We told him that we want to build democracy in a new way. We have a new approach to development," Prachanda said.

In an apparent reference to US branding them terrorist, Prachanda said, "We also told him that though we have been in the peace for a long time, you still do not have positive outlook towards us."

"He also had lot of questions regarding the Young Communist League (YCL)," Prachanda said, added that, "This is also an issue raised by other political parties and we have already proposed to end its paramilitary character like staying in a barrack and so on.”

Later addressing a programme, Prachanda blasted what he called as efforts to derail the past agreements.

"Efforts are being made to derail the past agreements after the election, be it the issue of army integration or the government formation," Prachanda said.

The programme was organised in memory of journalist Krishna Sen who was killed at the hands of the state forces during the conflict. (ANI)
