BSNL To Roll Out 3G Service In Chennai; Signs MoU With L&T Arun Excello Chief General Manager of BSNL, M P Velusamy said that the state-owned telecommunication company is all set to roll out its much-awaited 3G services in the Chennai telecom district, comprising Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur, in the first week of June.

Mr. Velusamy was lecturing at a press meet held for the signing of a MoU between BSNL and L&T Arun Excello Realty Pvt. Ltd to set up telecom infrastructure at the Estancia Integrated Township.

For this purpose, BSNL was installing around 600 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), out of which 25 had already been set up, he said.

He also said BSNL had also decided to launch Internet Protocol Television (IPL), which help broadband users to watch satellite channels on their PCs with the help of a set-top box.

“Our customers, who avail of this facility, can watch 100 channels for just Rs 75, while the paid channels would be offered at nominal charges,” he said.

He added that steps were being taken to offer broadband connections to 75% of BSNL land-line users in Chennai by 2010.

Besides all this, he mentioned that the Chennai Telecom District is the most profitable telecom area, which generates an income of Rs 580 on a monthly basis with each landline connection and Rs 600 with broadband.

Likewise, 30,000 new land-line connections are added each year, he added.

While clearing up the features of the exchange at Estancia Integrated Township, P Suresh, Managing Director, L&T Arun Excello Realty Pvt. Ltd, said it will cover up 82 acres, which includes a residential zone with 1,900 apartments.

According to MoU, BSNL would extend copper-optic fiber connectivity with 100% redundancy to all buildings inside Estancia to deliver its services including voice and data services, high speed broadband, centrex facility, mobile services, wi-fi hotspots, MPLS-VPN and Internet lines.
