Disney Buys ‘TZP’ Overseas Home Video RightsFor the first time in the history of Indian cinema, an international studio purchased the video rights of an Indian movie.

Walt Disney purchased the rights of ‘Taare Zameen Par’ for distributing it in United States as mainstream home video release.

Taare Zameen Par (TZP) is a 2007 award-winning movie, which revolves around a dyslexic child, who is considered ‘difficult’ by everyone including parents, teachers, friends and society because nobody realizes that the child is suffering from a learning disability. A new, young teacher who comes and help the child get out of his problem.

Both commercially and critically praised, TZP won the 2008 Filmfare Best Movie Award plus several other Filmfare and Star Screen Awards in India.

TZP garnered excellent collections in the overseas territories. Moreover, it will be one of the top four Hindi films from India in the US.

Walt Disney showed interest in the movie as it shows the worry of children and their upbringing. They wanted to be connected with the movie as it caters to children’s matters.

Aamir Khan, the producer, director and actor of the movie, is really thrilled about the latest triumph of the movie.

He said, “Yes, Disney has bought the home video rights of Taare Zameen Par. We (Aamir Khan Productions) are very happy and proud to be associated with Walt Disney. They are the best when it comes to kids. The film has done well in the US and I hope the DVDs do well too.”

But, Aamir was not ready to reveal the money involved in the deal.

But sources said that after the deal Aamir get richer by about Rs 4 crore.
