Fanta Drops Rani Mukerjee As Its Brand Ambassador

Fanta Drops Rani Mukerjee As Its Brand Ambassador It’s seems that Bollywood actress Rani Mukerjee is losing her charm day by day.

Soft drink major, Coco Cola has dropped ace Bollywood beauty Rani Mukerji as brand ambassador for its brand, ‘Fanta’, because she has ceased to be a youth icon.

With the competition hotting up in the market, the soft drink major ‘Fanta’ has decided to replace Rani with the much younger Genelia D'souza as its new corporate brand ambassador. Earlier, companies like Titan and Munch has also decided not to renew the contract with the Bengali beauty.

Fanta’s action seems to reflect the film industry's perception that Rani is no more the box office draw that she once was.

It all boils down to one thing, Age.

Industry sources say that Rani, now 30, lacks appeal with the younger generation.

While talking over this, a source said, “It's quite ironical, but the industry always maintains that an actress touching 30 is considered not young. When Rani's contract expired, it was decided that she doesn't fit the bill any more because it's more of a youth brand. Her high price in times of recession is also a matter of worry. The Coca Cola Company did not bother to renew her contract.”

Apart from her age, it is also believed that she is no more concerned about her future in films. Rani's stock in the industry has dropped following the poor box office response to her recent films like Saawariya (2007), Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007), Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007), and Babul (2006). She is also perceived to be too closely aligned to the Yash Raj Films banner by other filmmakers.

"Her past films did not do well at the box-office and it's an added worry for any company. From the numero uno spot to lesser and lesser films has made her fade in the public's memory. To top it all, she is completely off-media which has made her almost invisible," said a source.

Rani must find it hard to digest the manner in which her standing in the industry has started to unravel. Not so long ago she counted amongst the top Bollywood actresses.
