Frankfurt  - Bundesliga player Luiz Gustavo is being investigated by the German football association after television footage showed him elbowing an opponent.

Luiz Gustavo, who plays for 1899 Hoffenheim, was shown to have elbowed Hanover's Arnold Bruggink in the 36th minute during the 2-2 draw between the two sides on Saturday.

Referee Wolfgang Stark did not see the incident and waved play on.

If the disciplinary committee of the DFB finds Luiz Gustavo guilty of an offence, he is likely to face a suspension. dpa
