Hospitals Refuse To Admit Patient With Burn Injuries

Hospitals Refuse To Admit Patient With Burn InjuriesKolkata: Before finally getting admission at SSKM Hospital on Tuesday, a 24-year-old woman with 90% burn injuries moved from one hospital to another for over 12 hours.

Ms Lopamudra Mitra, a resident of Dum Dum Cantonment, was found burnt at her house around 6.45 p.m. on Monday.

The victim’s relatives took her to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where she was refused admission and was referred to SSKM Hospital.

When taken to SSKM Hospital, the authorities failed to admit her due to shortage of beds at the hospital’s burn ward.

After that, she was taken to Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) for treatment. The victim was once again refused admission as the hospital did not have a burn ward.

After getting frustrated, the victim’s relatives brought her to SSKM again where she was finally admitted around noon.

Ms Mitra’s troubles did not stop, though.

Her family members said that till late in the day, Lopamudra was kept on floor with just a saline drip without any other treatment.

Dr. Ashok Ghosh, medical superintendent of SSKM Hospital, said that Lopamudra (patient) had not been refused admission, but since a bed was unavailable she was asked to wait till arrangements were made.
