Mercedes Benz Car Sales higher in IndiaThe sale of super luxury cars in India registered growth despite the global financial crisis. The luxury car makers, such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen are looking for markets in developing countries such as India and China. They consider India as a potential market for high-end car sales.

The sales of Mercedes Benz registered a decent growth in the Indian market. The comapny has sold 3141 units from January to October 2008. It has sold 2141 premium units in the same period last year according to Director (Sales and Marketing), Mercedes Benz India, Sanjiv Sahajawala. 
However, its market share in luxury car category decreased by 50 percent, which earlier stood at 90 per cent. The decline in market share is due to the entry of other players. Sahajawala said that there is no slump in luxury car market. He also launched a new model, Mercedes C220 Avant Garde costing between Rs 27 lakh to Rs 70 lakh

The company is shifting its Chikali plant to Chakan near Pune by 2009. The plant near Pune is spread over 100 acres with production capacity of 5,000 units per year. The capacity of its existing plant at Chikhali is 3000 vehicles per year.
