MTNL enters low cost PC market with Internet Connectivity for just Rs 4500

MTNL is offering a great package for entry level personal computer in partnership with Chennai based Novatium for just Rs. 4,500. The PC offered by telecom PSU MTNL will be bundled with an internet connection as well.

Novatium has named the computer “netPC” and it will be having the basic processing unit only and will not have any additional hardware. The Personal computers will be connected with MTNL server in each locality for internet connectivity. The PC will not have any hard drive for storage or CPU. It will be run from the server of MTNL and will act as any other desktop for internet surfing.

A Raja, Communication and IT minister will launch netPC in the capital on Monday. Novatium informed that the users will not have any security or virus problems as the server will be managed by the company. Users will enjoy trouble free internet browsing experience. The company will offer 2GB remote storage space to its users. With such low- budget, the internet will have much better reach across the country. The scheme, if successful, will be launched soon in other parts of the country. The company has been working on a similar project in south Chennai.

Low cost and no maintenance cost is a big benefit of this scheme. The software upgrades and security will be provided by the company. Novatium will offer the technology while MTNL will offer internet connectivity. Novatium will get access to wide user base of telecom giant MTNL while the PSU will be able to sell internet services to more clients.

Customers will be able to choose the operating system between Windows and Linux. Novatium is confident that the concept will pick up very fast among students and lower income groups in New Delhi.
