Morning rainfall greets Chandigarh, surrounding areas

ChandigarhChandigarh, July 11 : Moderate to heavy rainfall greeted Chandigarh and its surrounding areas Sunday morning, making the weather somewhat cool and pleasant.

However, it was soon followed by bright sunshine.

Weathermen have predicted more rainfall in various parts of Punjab and Haryana.

"We are expecting light to moderate showers in various parts of this region till Sunday night. We also expect heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms at many places in Punjab on Monday. It could bring a marginal dip in the mercury during the day," a Met official said.

'Too busy' Pope snubs Prince Charles: Report

Fidel Castro makes rare public appearance

Fidel CastroHavana, July 11 : A Cuban website published photographs over the weekend of revolutionary leader Fidel Castro making his first public appearance since he resigned as president in mid-2006.

The official Cubadebate website ran five photographs taken by Castro's son, Alex, during a visit Wednesday to the National Scientific Research Centre.

The former president, 83, commemorated the 45th anniversary of the centre's founding in sports attire and held animated conversations with the managers and workers, the website said.

The last week event was also attended by former Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters.

Former All Black captain Murray Mexted, who delivered the keynote address, described the women who stripped to raise money as "PR girls for rugby", The New Zealand Herald reported.
