On Monday, the online bulletin-board style social network Pinterest said that it has raised about $367 million in new capital. The company also stated that the funds were raised at $11 billion valuation, more than double of $5 billion during the last fund raising. According to Pinterest, the new capital will help the company to boost its global expansion plan.

In a statement, Pinterest stated that the company could raise an additional $211 million. The statement further said that the additional capital will be used for corporate purposes. "In 2014, international users grew more than 135%. Today, they are more than 40 percent of all users, up from just 28 percent in 2013", the statement stated.

This year, SeaWorld San Diego has beaten its record for sea lion rescues, as the state is heading towards a historic high for sea lion stranding.

The spokesman, Dave Koontz, said that till Monday, SeaWorld rescued 505 marine mammals, including 487 sea lions, and has surpassed its last record of 474 marine mammal rescues in 1983.

In the meantime, the National Marine Fisheries Service has reported that between January 1 and March 8, 1,600 sea lions have washed up on California beaches. It was equal to the total number that stranded in 2013 wherein federal fisheries officials declared an “unusual mortality event” for the species.

The fisheries service has said that of all, 720 are under care at marine mammal centers throughout the state.

During a closed-door hearing, a 17-year-old girl and her mother requested the release of the teen from state custody after she was forced to undergo chemotherapy. The teen, Cassandra C, testified on Monday through teleconference in Juvenile Court.

The teen recently came to know that her cancer is in remission and she said that she has no problem with receiving treatment. But, she and her mother want to end her custody by the Department of Children and Families to allow her go home, and not spend time in agony until the chemotherapy is complete next month.

A new study has found that men are more vulnerable to failing memory than women. The study also unveiled that almost everyone will face memory loss as they age.

With age, people’s memory skill and brain volume declines. The study researchers affirmed that it might be surprising that the deterioration has little to do with the accumulation of brain plaques that indicates about Alzheimer's disease.

The researchers with the study have challenged the existing view on the aging brain. It is said that when elderly start having memory lapses, it is considered to be an early sign of Alzheimer's disease. It is speculated that the problem is likely related to abnormal clumps of protein called beta-amyloid, which gets accumulated in the brain.

Scotland-based tour guide John Alasdair Macdonald captured a stunning image of a meteor in the sky over Loch Ness, a deep and freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands. According to Macdonald, it was a beautiful night when he decided to go outside and capture some stunning images of stars. He said that he went for a walk at about 9pm when he captured the rare sight.

After capturing stunning picture, Macdonald posted it on his company’s Facebook page. Macdonald also runs a tour company ‘The Hebridean Explorer’. While talking to BBC, Macdonald said that the photograph went viral after he posted it on the page. According to him, the photograph was a total fluke. He also said that it was a co-incidence and he knew that he will never capture such kinds of images.

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) is endeavoring to quickly increase production of the engines that power its Falcon 9 rocket. SpaceX is positive about accomplishing its goal of 13 launches and two test flights this year, President Gwynne Shotwell told Reuters.

Efforts are being made to hire engineers and other workers to help boost production. Among the ones hired for the stint include from sectors such as the automotive industry and the military, said company officials.

The company is expecting to produce at least 180 engines this year. The number is likely to go up to 240 next year and 400 in 2017.
