Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit of Delhi has dedicated a new solar power generation facility to give a boost to solar power usage in the national capital.

Delhi's power distribution company BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has installed solar panels at nine premises in the city with a combined capacity to generate 345 kilo watts. The total project cost for the new solar plant was Rs 3.6 crore, out of which about half was funded jointly by Delhi government and Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

P. Chidambaram, the union Finance Minister has said that the government is planning to issue some of the new banking licenses before March of 2014 in the country.

"RBI has released guidelines for licencing of new banks and I hope that some banks will be licenced before the end of the financial year. We need more banks, we need more branches. We need them in the small towns, in the block headquarters, and the backward regions of the country especially the North Eastern states and the hill states," Chidambaram said.

Reliance Industries has said that it expects the revenues from its retail business to grow 50 per cent in year across formats, according to RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani during the company's annual general meeting.

"Our retail business would undertake multi-fold growth in the next few years by delivering over 50% revenue growth in various format sectors year-on-year and is on its way to achieve revenue target of INR 40,000 crore to INR 50,000 crore as shared by me in our last AGM," Ambani said.

New Delhi, June 6 : India supports the freedom of navigation in accordance with the principles of international laws, Defence Minister A. K. Antony said Thursday and offered to discuss with Thailand possible areas of cooperation in defence producution.

According to an official release, Antony - who met Thai Defence Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat in Bangkok -- said that India has developed a well-established defence industry that can meet varying requirements of Thai armed forces.

New Delhi, June 6 :  The BJP's emphatic victory in six bypolls in Gujarat has added to the clamour in the party for a bigger national role for Chief Minister Narendra Modi, and indications are that he would head the 2014 polls campaign committee.

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said Thursday that at the party's national executive meet in Goa over the weekend Modi is likely to be installed the chief of the campaign committee as there was pressure for this from the cadres.

"A decision is likely to be taken," the leader told IANS, declining to be named.
