According to the latest data released, the manufacturing data expanded to its highest level in 11 months during the month of March indicating that the Chinese economy is showing signs of recovery.

The National Bureau of Statistics and China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing said that the country's Purchasing Managers' Index, which is an important index for manufacturing activity in the country, increased to 50.9. The index was recorded at the level of 50.1 during the month of February. A rating of more than 50 shows expansion while a rating of below 50 shows contraction.

Swiss drug maker, Novartis faced a defeat in a patent issue as India's apex court dismissed its patent bid for a blockbuster cancer drug.

The company condemned the decision by the Supreme Court of India to dismiss its patent application. The decision by the Supreme Court came after legal battle for seven years by the company to gain a patent protection for an updated version of leukemia drug Glivec in the country.

Telecom service provider, Telkom has said that it has appointed Sipho Maseko as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the troubled fixed line company.

Maseko, who has been working as a managing director of Vodacom, has said that he is privileged to join the company and pledged to work with the chairman, the board and staff to address the problems of the company and boost growth. The company had recently announced a voluntary early retirement process for its employees in order to save costs and strengthen its financial position in the South African market.

New Delhi, April 1 : Lauding Indian space agency ISRO, US astronaut Sunita Williams Monday said it was doing an excellent job and wished that more Indian American women follow her and the late Kalpana Chawla into space.

Williams, 47, who holds the world record for the most spacewalk time - 50 hours 40 minutes - by a female astronaut, is in India on a week-long trip.

"India is doing excellent in space programme and has a huge resource of people. ISRO (India Space Research organisation) is doing a great job," Williams told IANS.

Vijender, who is a deputy superintendent in Haryana Police, has been the face of Indian boxing ever since he won a historic bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Hyderabad, April 1 : With cash reserves of $70 million, online portal MakeMyTrip is looking to acquire companies which can bring more value, its CEO and founder Deep Kalra said.

The Nasdaq-listed firm is looking to acquire companies in areas like supplier disintermediation, pilgrimage travel and niche travel technology. MakeMyTrip, which so far had five merger and acquisition deals, is keen to acquire companies which can bring it closer to customers.
