London, Jan 16 : Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family are living on a warship guarded by the Russian navy.

The embattled dictator is said to have moved with his family and a few aides to the warship off Syria's coast.

Intelligence sources told the Saudi daily paper al-Watan the president was being protected by Russia, which effectively amounted to political asylum, The Times of Israel has reported.

Called the New York Safe Act, the law includes a tougher assault weapons ban that broadens the definition of what constitutes an assault weapon, and limits the capacity of magazines to seven bullets from 10, ABC News reports.

Hong Kong-based Cheung Kong Infrastructure (CKI) is planning to acquire EnviroWaste, which is the second-largest waste management company in New Zealand.

The deal to acquire the company by the Chinese firm, which was founded by Asia's richest men, Li Ka-shing, will be reviewed by the Overseas Investment Office. CKI has entered into an agreement with the Australian equity firm, Ironbridge Capital for the acquisition of EnviroWaste.
