Nokia gearing up to release updated Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone next month The reports are hot and around that Nokia is planning to update its popular Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone to compete more effectively with the rivals, such as Apple's iPhone, LG Arena, or Samsung's i8910 (Omnia HD) mobile phones.

According to the popular, award-winning multilingual technology weblog and podcast about consumer electronics – Engadget, some Taiwanese sources – mobile phone parts manufacturers have reported in DigiTimes that Nokia is working to upgrade its Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. (DigiTimes is a daily newspaper for semiconductor, electronics, computer and communications industries in Taiwan and the Greater China region).

According to reports, Nokia is looking to bring capacitive touchscreen to 5800 XpressMusic, which is currently using a resistive touchscreen. The Taiwanese sources have reported that Nokia has ordered apacitive screens for 5800 XpressMusic and other Nokia phones. Nokia is aiming to compete with iPhone using multi-touch screen, LG Arena getting acclaims for its S-Class 3D interface, and Samsung’s Omnia HD using AMOLED screen and intuitive 3D interface. The other updates may include improved camera and various other "performance enhancements".

The sources have reported that Nokia is gearing up to release the updated 5800 XpressMusic on the next month; the company is planning to ship 2 million units of the phone in the May – June time frame.

Presently, 5800 XpressMusic features a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, Media Bar, QWERTY keyboard, Contacts bar, access to Flickr, Facebook, Ovi browser, accelerometer, GPS (with A-GPS), micro-USB 2.0 connectivity, FM radio, and more, apart from the 3.2 inch, nHD 640×360 resolution touch screen display. It also comes with a plectrum and a stylus.
