London, September 14 : Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of a 12th century abbey in Abbeytown, UK, which has revealed hundreds of years of history.

According to a report in the Cumberland News, a team of volunteers painstakingly pieced together some of the buried secrets of Holme Cultram Abbey last week during a 
12-day dig.

The abbey was founded in 1150 by the Cistercian Monks from Melrose Abbey on the Scottish Borders. It grew to be larger than Carlisle Cathedral in the 15th century.

But after the dissolution of the monasteries during the rule of Henry VIII, the abbey fell into disrepair and much of its stone was taken away to build houses.

London, September 14 : Some 450 graves have been found in Lakenheath, UK, out of which three graves are Saxon, after a discovery during recent roadworks.

According to a report in Bury Free Press newspaper, the find of three Saxon graves has helped to define the size of one of the largest burial grounds in Suffolk, which has been part of a 10-year study by the archaeological services at Suffolk County Council.

During the last six to nine months, the team has been monitoring roadworks taking place in RAF Lakenheath as the area was known for its ancient discoveries, said Jo Caruth, senior project officer for Archaeological Services.

London, Sept 14: The Church of England is to officially apologise to Charles Darwin for misunderstanding his theory of evolution – 126 years after his death.

The Church the will address its contrition directly to the Victorian scientist himself.

It will concede in a statement that it was over-defensive and over-emotional in dismissing Darwin''s ideas, calling "anti-evolutionary fervour" an "indictment" on the Church.

London, September 13 : Most Brit parents prefer to be informed about their children’s performance through digital sources such as text or e-mails, says a new survey.

One in 12 of the 1,493 parents, questioned for the poll conducted by the government education technology agency, Becta, confirmed that the schools used such means to keep them posted.

Yet, 68 percent of the parents required the schools to employ such techniques, especially when many already checked their financial statements online or by phone.
