Four militants killed in Manipur encounterImphal, Mar 7 : Four militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Irilbung village here on Saturday.

Police said that four heavily armed militants from the People's United Liberation Front (PULF) were shot dead near Irilbung village, about 15 kilometres from Imphal.

NSCN (IM) admit role in killing of sub-divisional officerImphal, March 4 : The National Socialist Council of Nagaland -- Isak-Muivah or NSCN (IM) has admitted that one of its senior cadres was responsible for the killing of sub-divisional officer Dr. Thingnam Kishan and his two staffers in Ukhrul district.

Normal life in Manipur was affected for days as people protested against the killings.

The incident had raised big uproar among residents, as they wanted an end to violence and environment of terror.

Police foil civil organisations'' protest against killing of three officials in Manipur

Bishnupur (Manipur), Mar 3 : Police in Manipur''s Bishnupur district foiled a protest rally against the killing of three government officials.

Activists of several civil social organisations like United Club''s Organisation of Bishnupur district, working Committee of Apunba Lup, the apex body of 32 agitating groups and Joint Action Committee (JAC) had organised the protest.

Police dispersed the protesters and later seized public address systems, banners and placards.

Manipur protests against killing of three government employees

Manipur, ImphalUkhrul (Manipur), Feb 26 : Condemning the killing of three government officials, residents staged a silent protest rally here and demanded punishment for the guilty.

All the education institutions, offices, business establishments, transport and other activities remained closed in Ukhrul district in view of the protest rally organised by all the Tangkhul frontal organizations on Wednesday.

"We feel very bad. This thing should not happen in our area. All of us feel very sorry for the bereaved families," said N. Everest Luikham, a member of the Organising Committee.

Curfew in Manipur relaxed for twelve hours

Manipur, Feb 25 : With a further improvement in the law and order situation in Manipur, curfew was relaxed for twelve hours from 6 a. m. on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, the local civil society organisations have urged the state government to pressurise the National Socialist Council of Nagaland(Isaac-Muivah - NSCN (IM) to hand over the killers of the three government officials.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) had imposed an indefinite strike on February 19 against the murder of three state government employees in Ukhrul district by some unknown miscreants.

Curfew relaxed for eight hours in violence-hit Imphal

Manipur, ImphalImphal, Feb 23 : Curfew has been relaxed for eight hours in Imphal from 9:00 a. m this morning.

Arrangements are being made to hand over the bodies of the three slain officials which were lying at the mortuary of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, since February 17.

Post mortem of the bodies has already been performed.

However, bodies are yet to be received by the families seeking for a combined cremation of the three bodies.
