Speeding AMTS bus kills one, injures minor

The incident took place in front of Juna Wadaj police chowki

One killed and two, including a five-year-old boy, sustained serious injuries after a speeding AMTS bus rammed into them near Juna Wadaj police chowki on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sonu Suryavanshi, 18, a resident of Hanuman ni Chali, Juna Wadaj. Suryavanshi along with the two injured, Ankit Marwadi, a minor and Virendra Mishra, autorishshaw driver, were rushed to the VS hospital. While Suryavanshi succumbed to her injuries, Marwadi's condition is reported to be critical.

The incident took place at around 10 am when a 40/3 AMTS bus plying between Gayatri Mandir and Bhoot Bhawani Mandir hit an auto-rickshaw near Juna Wadaj police chowki.

Sources said that the driver of the bus, Pankaj, after hitting the autorickshaw lost control over his steering, hit a bicycle parked near a betel shop and jumped over the road divider. It went head on to hit the five-year-old Marwadi, who was playing on the roadside after which it also ran over Suryavanshi. However, Pankaj applied the breaks before the bus could have hit the police chowki.

While Mishra sustained serious injuries, the two passengers sitting in his auto miraculously escaped getting hurt. A large crowd gathered on the accident spot and pelted stones on the bus. However, according to eyewitnesses, Pankaj started vomiting and claimed to be suffering from hysteria. He was later admitted to VS hospital, where he changed his statement and alleged he was a heart patient.

Meanwhile, the Naranpura police have lodged a case under various sections of IPC and Motor Vehicles Act against the bus driver for rash driving.
