Tesla’s China-made EV wholesale deliveries surge in August 2023

Tesla’s China-made EV wholesale deliveries surge in August 2023

In August 2023, American electric car pioneer Tesla Motors continued to ablaze the world with strong sales of its exciting and remarkable Made-in-China (MIC) Model 3 electric sedan and Model Y crossover SUV, thanks to the emissions-free captivating features and specs. According to intriguing insights from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla's MIC EVs achieved an impressive total of 84,159 units in wholesale shipments. The figure easily encompassed the previous month’s local retail sales (sales in China) and exports to other countries of the world.

The aforementioned figure also stands as a testament to the American manufacturer’s relentless pursuit of excellence in the realm of EVs, as the company’s sales increased 9.3 per cent year-over-year. It also outshined the average for the first eight months, which was previously reported at 78,000 units.

For the first seven months of this year, the American manufacturer’s wholesale vehicle shipments of the MIC Tesla Model 3 electric sedan and Model Y crossover reached 624,983 units, up 56 per cent from the corresponding period of last year. It is noteworthy here that the CPCA reports only wholesale shipments, which distinguishes from registrations and deliveries to customers. However, it is also a fact that wholesale shipments are usually very close to deliveries.

It is also worth noting here that the growth in sales was undoubtedly driven upward by the manufacturer’s strategic price adjustments, particularly, the prices of the Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD and Performance versions.

There was some uncertainty as well because of the recent unveiling of an upgraded version of the Model 3 electric sedan. Referred to as the "Highland," the upgraded version will specifically be made available in its RWD and AWD variants, while the Performance version will no longer be in production. The deliveries of the new Model 3 to Chinese customers will likely commence in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year.

The MIC Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are available in an enticing range of choices: the Model 3 RWD/AWD and Model Y RWD, AWD and Performance. The Model 3 RWD, priced at $35,700 (259,900 CNY), delivers a range of 377 miles (606 km) on a single charge, 0-62 mph acceleration in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 124 mph. The AWD variant, priced at $40,700 (295,900 CNY), elevates the driving experience with a remarkable range of 443 miles (713 km) and 0-62 mph acceleration time of 4.4 seconds.
