Wladimir Klitschko to defend titles against Haye

Wladimir Klitschko to defend titles against Haye Hamburg - Ukraine heavyweight world champion Wladimir Klitschko is to fight Britain's David Haye on June 20, his management confirmed Thursday.

The bout will take place in Europe but a venue has yet to be established.

"The contracts are being signed today," Klitschko manager Bernd Boente of the Hamburg-based Klitschko Management Group said.

Several venues in Germany would like to stage the bout in which Klitschko will be defending his WBO and IBF titles against former cruiserweight champion Haye.

An open-air bout is a possibility, Boente said.

A Klitschko-Haye fight had originally been been pencilled in for Chelsea's football stadium, Stamford Bridge.

But the fight then appeared to be off after the two sides were unable to reach a deal amid protracted negotiations.

Klitschko, 32, last fought on December 13 when the referee stopped a one-sided bout in the seventh round against Hasim Rahman of the United States.

Haye, 28, had originally lined up a fight against Wladimir's elder brother Vitali for the WBC belt, but said he would take on either of the Klitschko brothers.

Vitali Klitschko, 37, who came out of retirement to reclaim his WBC title last year, stopped the German-based Cuban Juan Carlos Gomez in the ninth round in Stuttgart, Germany on March 21. (dpa)
