Washington (dpa) - Do you have electronic versions of all of your important paper documents? If not, it probably makes sense to buy an inexpensive scanner to start the job. A PDF copy of your important documents not only gives you a back-up but, more importantly, makes your papers instantly searchable. Birth certificates, marriage license, and insurance papers are just some of the documents that warrant reproducing electronically.

Washington (dpa) - Should you get a bigger monitor or use two smaller monitors side-by-side? A larger monitor may actually save desktop space, but two smaller monitors can make it easier to separate and view two different full-screen applications, which is what many want. One thing is certain: more screen real estate translates into greater productivity.

Washington (dpa) - Gmail users can now access their Gmail in traditional e-mail programs, such as Outlook and Thunderbird. Even if you still read your Gmail online, making a copy of it in a traditional e-mail program can be handy for purposes of back-up or searching. Likewise, you can use Gmail as a back-up repository for e-mail that you receive with the e-mail client. You can either forward mail to your Gmail account or set up Gmail to retrieve a copy of e-mail sent to your other accounts.

Washington (dpa) - Do you keep a catalogue or record of your CDs, DVDs, books, or video games? The free application Libra (http://www.getlibra.com) makes the task simple. Libra uses the product's bar code to retrieve information and create an attractive database - complete with pictures and product information - of the products you own. You can easily search the database, print catalogues of your possessions, and share your collection online. (dpa)
