Rare Deep-Sea Beaked Whale found washed up on a Plymouth beach

A deep-sea beaked whale washed up on a Plymouth, Massachusetts, beach. The carcass is so rare that it has made marine experts quite confused and they are trying to know the exact species of it and how did it reach the shore.

The whale was found on a Plymouth beach lying on the rocks. The female whale is 17-foot in length and weighs almost 1 ton. It is quite rare as it has a long slim snout and dark purplish skin. The toothed whale is quite similar to a dolphin, but bigger in size.

The New England Aquarium staff said, "They are so rarely seen that New England Aquarium biologists have been conferring to determine the exact species, which they believe to be a Sowerby's beaked whale. Aquarium staff last handled a beaked whale in 2006 in Duxbury".

Kepler Mission discovers earth-like planet 1,400 light years away

NASA's Kepler Mission has recently discovered a planet very similar to earth located 1,400 light years away. NASA's Kepler Mission was launched to identify other planets that are similar to earth and are revolving around a start on the habitable zone.

The discovery surrounds a planet called Kepler 452b; it orbits its sun every 385 days. The mass of the planet is five times higher than earth and size is 60% bigger. Kepler 452b is orbiting an older star which is hotter than our sun.

According to researchers, chances are high for this planet to have a rocky surface. It appears from its thick atmosphere that water is present underneath it.

Kickstarter campaign tastes success with $540K to preserve moon space suit

The Smithsonian Institution officials are ecstatic after reaching a Kickstarter campaign goal in a mere five days. The campaign was launched last week with the aim of conserving and displaying the space suit used by astronaut Neil Armstrong when he created history by being the first human to walk on the surface of the Moon.

Initial target of the Smithsonian was to raise $500,000 so as to help conserve, display and digitize the suit by the time Apollo 11 moon landing completes its 50th anniversary in July 20, 2019. However, the Smithsonian not only completed its target, but surpassed it with more than $540,000 at its disposal as of Sunday night. What is really amazing is the fact that 23 days still remain before the fundraising campaign comes to end.

New Horizons Images show Geological Activity on Pluto

New Horizons spacecraft has recently sent new images of Pluto, showing evidences of exotic ice flows over the surface of the dwarf planet. NASA released the images on Friday pointing at some geologic activities that recently took place on Pluto's surface.

Some gray and white surfaces on the planet show the evidence of geologic activities. Some of the photos even reveal the Sputnik PLanum, the heart-shaped region of the planet.

"My jaw was on the ground when I saw this first image of an alien atmosphere in the Kuiper Belt. It reminds us that exploration brings us more than just incredible discoveries - it brings incredible beauty", said New Horizons Principal Investigator Alan Stern in a statement.

New-home sales see 6.8% slump in June

A 6.8% plunge was seen last month in house sales to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 482,000, though analysts still predict a good outlook for housing sector in future. The report also wrote down May sales to 517,000 from 546,000.

Home sales grew earlier this year, but this latest information calls for the needs of taking some financial actions to boost the housing sector so that the market does not cool off.

"There's no question the housing sector kicked into a higher gear in the second quarter, but this might be a dose of reality that the acceleration is not as sharp as it had looked. The outlook for housing still remains positive", said McCarthy, chief financial economist at Jefferies LLC in New York.

The flower has been characterized as a carrion flower and is also called corpse flower or corpse plant. Titan has been put in the genus Rafflesia, which is much like Titan Arum, and grows in the rain-forests of Sumatra.
