Millions of Americans suffering from cardiovascular disease now have a new option to better their plight in the form of a new class of a drug that won the approval from federal regulators on Friday. Cardiovascular disease is the nation’s number one killer.

However, analysts fear that the drug could give further rise to the controversy over significant hike in prices of drugs. Philae lander goes silent again

It seems problems with Philae lander are never going to end. The lander landed on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in November and settled in a place where there was no sunlight available for its solar panels to power it. It woke up in June when the comet moved closer to the Sun and sunlight was harnessed by the lander’s solar panel to activate it.

However, the lander has again gone silent as mission officials on earth have lost contact with it. The lander is no longer sending signals to its mother ship Rosetta, specialists working for the historic European Space Agency challenge stated.

Smithsonian officials achieves success in Kickstarter campaign for Armstrong’s spacesuit

The Smithsonian Institution has achieved its goal set to raise funds for conserving and displaying the spacesuit used by Neil Armstrong while he walked on the moon. The campaign saw the success in just a matter of five days.

The Smithsonian wanted to raise $500,000 for the “Reboot the Suit” project. But it took not time for the institution to just not only reach its goal, but surpass it with nearly $520,000 at its disposal now. The campaign will run through August 19, which is why National Air and Space Museum has increased the goal to $700,000.

The additional money raised through the campaign will be used for the purpose of preserving, digitizing and displaying Alan Shepard’s Mercury spacesuit.

Four-legged snake fossil discovered

Discovery of a snake which hadfour legs with fingers and toes has come from a 113 million-year-old-fossil study. The discovery has provided the first ever evidence for a snake with four legs. Researchers have named the snake Tetrapodophisamplectus.

Nicknamed 'huggy snake', the reptile appeared to have belonged to Brazil and its head size was no more than the size of a human fingernail.

Its front legs were very small, whereas the size of its back legs was slightly longer. Researchers believe that its back legs would have had helped it to grasp its prey.

Researchers also learnt from the fossil that is was more likely to burrow rather than swim, another strong evidence that snake evolved on land.

Chandra images help discover powerful pulsar wreaking havoc on its stellar neighbor

The Chandra X-ray Observatory has helped NASA scientists discover a fast-moving pulsar. Researchers have received a series of observations from Chandra, helping them get a deep look into how a pulsar about 7,500 light- years from Earth viciously attacks it stellar neighbor. The pulsar has punched a hole through a nearby star's shroud of dust.

The pulsar is an extremely dense, spinning neutron star. It belongs to a binary system with a star nearly 30-fold the size of the sun. Researchers also noticed the spin of the large star and found that it is also busy maintaining a disk of dust as material just escape from the swiftly revolving star.

PETA calls on California Coastal Commission to reject SeaWorld Orca Tank Expansion

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is not in favor of plans proposed by SeaWorld San Diego for a major expansion of its killer whale tanks. PETA has even formally urged the California Coastal Commission on Thursday to say no to the SeaWorld Diego as it has the authority to decide the welfare of orcas.

The animals right organization said in a letter of opposition filed with the coastal panel that it is unnecessary to have the habitat enlargement for orcas.

There is no way the $100 million project appears to complete before 2018; it first requires to have the approval of Coastal Commissioners as the area falls in the coastal zone. The review involves a lot of factors to be considered like water quality and noise, which do have a strong impact on coastal resources.
