Robot beats Japanese master swordsman

A master swordsman Isao Machii has taught a robot to use a sword, seen in a Japanese commercial. This has been done, when development of different types of robots is speeding up.

Many tests were conducted on the robot such as a simple diagonal cut, some basic fruit slicing, which is there in fruit ninja and the ‘thousand cuts’. It is almost similar to the modern-day samurai.

The robot under consideration is the Motoman-MH24, an industrial bot; it is used in the medical field at times. It was constructed by the Yaskawa Electric Corporation.

The sword-wielding industrial robot fought with a master swordsman in a surprising battle of man versus machine. The Motoman-MH24 machine is generally used for collecting and packing products in factories.

Novel Technique helps Discovering Ancient Gold Trade Route

Evidence has been found of an ancient gold trade route between the southwest of Britain and Ireland dating to the early Bronze Age.

Researchers from the universities of Southampton and Bristol have used a technique called laser ablation mass spectrometry to evaluate chemical composition of 50 earliest gold artifacts in Ireland. These artifacts were present in the collections of the National Museum of Ireland.

Marchand said that they could identify the family of turtle and thought it to a snapping turtle. Its carapace length (top shell) was around 25 to 50 years old. Another large female turtle discovered was having a carapace length of 25.3 centimeters.

Researchers design ‘Smallest, Most Accurate’ Quantum Thermometer

On Friday, researchers from the UAB and University of Nottingham announced of designing the smallest and most accurate quantum thermometer.

The thermometer is made up of atoms. It is so precise that it can detect the smallest fluctuations even in the microscopic regions. In the US Journal Physical Review Letter, the researchers have shared that the device is so small that it can display different ‘quantum’ features.

“Devising sensitive and practical nano-scale thermometers would represent a huge leap forward as such technology would enable a plethora of applications in bioscience, chemistry, physics and in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases”, said researchers.
