Toothbrushes in Communal Bathrooms could have Traces of Fecal Matter

A new research has showed that a majority if toothbrushes kept in communal bathrooms are contaminated with fecal matter. A team of researchers has said that it’s already known that transmission of fecal coilforms is common in communal bathrooms.

“The main concern is not with the presence of your own fecal matter on your toothbrush, but rather when a toothbrush is contaminated with fecal matter from someone else, which contains bacteria, viruses or parasites that are not part of your normal flora”, said Lauren Aber, a graduate student at Quinnipiac University.

Plans to use Fake Orca to Scare Sea Lions from Oregon Docks fail

A fake killer whale was all set to be put into use in Oregon to scare off sea lions, but the attempt failed on Thursday after problems emerged in engines.

Launch of the fiberglass watercraft named ‘Island’ happened near the port in Astoria in order to chase away sea lions that crowd docks and feed on salmon that are the target of commercial fishers. NBC affiliate KGW reported that no injuries were caused due to plan failure.

Astoria has a good population of the sea lions and orcas prey on them. It is believed that contraption can play a significant role in sensing them to less threatening places. The contraption spouts water and speakers are fixed on them to produce sound of whales on the hunt.

Newly Discovered Tasman Peninsula dusky antechinus facing Extinction Threat

Queensland University of Technology's Dr. Andrew Baker has reasons to justify his claim that newly discovered Tasman Peninsula dusky antechinus is under threat.

The marsupial’s habitat is majorly present in state forest where logging is taking place at great scale. Climate change and feral pests are other threats to the marsupial. But the biggest threat to them is their annual suicidal sexcapades.

Dr. Baker made the discovery of the species many days ago. Lately, he has unveiled that the species can have sex 14 hours at a time, and then they die. All antechinus males fight cruelly for sex and then they die.

NASA celebrating 50th Anniversary of First American Spacewalk

On June 3, 1965, NASA astronaut Ed White carried out his 21-minute long spacewalk. He was enjoying the spacewalk so much that he did not want to return to the Gemini IV mission craft and was ordered to be back.

After receiving the orders, he told his fellow astronaut James McDivitt, “I’m coming back in…and it’s the saddest moment of my life”. Now after 50 years, NASA is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first American spacewalk.

In NASA’s terminology, spacewalks are known as extravehicular activity (EVA). When spacewalks were carried out at the time of Leonov and Whit, astronauts and cosmonauts were tethered to stop them from floating away into space.
