Researchers create ‘Supercool’ Material that glows when touched

A material has been identified that crystallizes and produces light as soon as it is touched.

It has been named as an organic supercooled liquid. A video has captured the moment the material becomes extremely bright after being rubbed by a crystal. The results may prove useful in creating better memory storage systems for computers or medical sensors.

American Chemical Society has reported the research, carried out by Kyeongwoon Chung and Dr Jinsang Kim from the University of Michigan.

Researchers studied a chemical called DPP (diketopyrrolopyrrole), which has been commonly used in dyes and organic electronics applications.

The organic molecules of DPP are widely used in electronic devices such as solar cells, LEDs and transistors.

Question Mark over Apple’s HomeKit Launch

Launch of Apple’s HomeKit has been delayed after sources reported that the technology firm's Internet of Things software framework was experiencing delays.

Apple PR on the other hand said that the launch is on track and will be on scheduled time.

Apple was widely expected to launch its HomeKit devices in May or June this year (i.e. now), but now there are suspects that the launch is being pushed back until August or September.

The products will have to match the Apple’s security standards for integration on the proprietary framework, which for Apple, will mean smaller ‘partners’ will be sacrificing control for a small percentage of financial return.

HomeKit will connect multiple smart home devices together, allowing them to talk to the iPhone but also to each other.
