London, Jan 08 : Condemning the terror attack at the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, British Indian author Salman Rushdie has said that the attack was a sign of the "deadly mutation in the heart of Islam."

When religion combines with modern weaponry, it poses a real threat to "our freedoms," he wrote, reported The Independent.

He expressed solidarity with the magazine by urging people to defend the art of satire, "which has always been a force for liberty and against tyranny, dishonesty and stupidity."

Washington, Jan 08 : New York's Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC), which licenses taxicabs in the city, has temporarily suspended five out of six car hubs of Uber until they divulge electronic records of drivers' trips.

The TLC has asked Uber to produce data including, "the date of trip, time of trip, pick up location, and license numbers" and has demanded that the company pay 200 dollars fine for each of its bases in New York , reported The Verge.

Uber, on the other hand, has argued that the details demanded by the agency constitute trade secrets and sharing them could undermine its position in the market. They also said that such data could be a violation of drivers' privacy.
