Origin of magnetic field covering Sun discovered

Washington, Feb 20 - A team of scientists has discovered the origin of the magnetic field covering the Sun.

The magnetic field that covers the Sun and determines its behavior, the eleven year cycles no less than such conspicuous phenomena as solar spots and solar storms, also has another side to it, that is, a magnetic web that covers the entire surface of the Sun at rest and whose net magnetic flow is greater than that of the active areas.

A study led by the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC) has revealed where the flow that feeds this web comes from.

Swine flu death toll at 703; cases cross 11,000 mark

New Delhi: Forty more deaths due to contagious swine flu were reported in the country taking the toll to 703 as the virus continued to spread its tentacles to new states, including Mizoram, with the number of cases crossing the
11,000 mark Thursday.

This prompted Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth to chair a high-level meeting during which he asked the states to ensure setting up of necessary helplines and round-the-clock functioning of outbreak monitoring cells.

Those infected with H1N1 virus are 11071, a new high in recent years, with number of cases showing increase in states Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and Telangana.

Petroleum Ministry leaked documents: Reliance Industries man among five arrested

New Delhi: In a possible case of corporate espionage, the Delhi Police have detained two Petroleum Ministry employees and three others for allegedly leaking confidential government documents.

As per reports, the Delhi Police carried out raids at Shastri Bhavan and nabbed the two - one a peon and the other is a clerk.

However, they are said to have had access to the offices of senior officials in the ministry. Of the the other three, one has claimed to be a journalist.

Media reports said that the detained men are being questioned and will be put under arrest. The reports added, the five have allegedly leaked official documents to business houses.
