Mumbai: The benchmark BSE Sensex today rose over 54 points in early trade, extending gains for the second straight day, as participants made selective buying in shares of RIL, ONGC, SBI and Infosys.

The 30-share index gained 54.14 points, or 0.21 percent, to 25,575.33. The gauge had gained 330.71 points in the last session on late heavy fund-based buying.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 14.60 points, 0.19 percent, to 7,646.30.

Brokers said selective buying by participants despite a mixed trend on other Asian bourses, amidst deepening crisis in Iraq, influenced the sentiments here.

Adobe Systems Inc, the maker of Photoshop and Acrobat software, reported better-than-expected quarterly profit and revenue, helped by higher subscription sales of its Creative Cloud and Marketing Cloud suites.

Adobe`s shares rose 8.6 percent in after-hours trading.

"These results reflect Adobe is continuing to execute well through its transition to the cloud, which continues to be a key ingredient in the company`s long-term recipe for success," FBR Capital Markets analyst Samad Samana told Reuters.

New Delhi, June 17 : In the first interaction between India and the Russian Federation, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet visiting Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry O. Rogozin tomorrow, official sources said.

According to the sources, India and Russia have a special and privileged strategic partnership and Mr. Rogozin's visit is in the context of high level bilateral contacts and intense dialogues on priority areas of bilateral cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister Rogozin will be in India on June 18 and 19,2014.

Washington, June 17 : A new study has revealed that consumption of e-cigarettes is much less harmful than cigarettes, with alcohol being the most dangerous substance. Lawrence D. Phillips, a researcher from London School of Economics at a conference of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), presented the relative risks of different drugs at Advances in Decision Analysis and said that e-cigarettes should be classified as a device for fighting nicotine addiction.

Phillips also concluded it by saying that how people smoke due to addiction of nicotine but instead they end up dying.
