Sensex down 112 points; consumer durables stocks fallMumbai, April 7 : A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 111.87 points or 0.50 percent down in the late afternoon session Monday, as consumer durables, capital goods and bank stocks declined.

Markets were cautious as the five-week-long polling exercise began Monday for the general election.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 22,355.56 points, was trading at 22,247.63 points around 1.40 p. m., down 111.87 points or 0.50 percent from the previous day's close at 22,359.50 points.

Farooq Abdullah files nomination from Srinagar

Farooq-AbdullahSrinagar, April 7 : National Conference (NC) patron and union minister Farooq Abdullah Monday filed his nomination papers for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat.

Farooq Abdullah was accompanied by his son, NC president and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and other senior party leaders.

State Congress president, Saif-ud-Din Soz also accompanied the union minister to the office of the returning officer in the Tankipora area of summer capital Srinagar.

The ruling NC-Congress alliance is jointly fighting the election in the state.

Bharti Airtel to launch $400M overseas bond issue

Bharti-AirtelTelecommunication services provider Bharti Airtel will tap the overseas bond markets again to raise $400 million, a merchant banker associated with the imminent issue revealed.

The bond issue, which is a part of Bharti's $2 billion debt raising plan, will take place in the next three to four weeks. The merchant banks said the issue would likely go through either by the end of April or early next month.

Revealing the planned issue, the merchant banker said, "Bharti will be raising around $400 million in the next three-four weeks from an overseas offering."
