Mulberry's has said that its plans to turn itself into a global luxury brand have affected profitability in the company during the first half of the year.

The company, which is based in London and Somerset, said that its profits fell 28 per cent during the first half profit as its turnaround plan and international expansion affected profitability. The company offers handbags named after stars including Aexa Chung and Lana Del Rey and is now looking to revive its brand as a luxury brand.

FirstGroup, the operator of bus and rails in the UK, is expected to appoint John McFarlane as its next chairman soon.

John McFarlane, who has been working with Aviva, will replace company founder Martin Gilbert in the company. McFarlane has been working as the chairman of insurer Aviva since July 2012 and will be named as the chairman of FirstGroup chairman on Friday. John McFarlane has also worked as a non-executive director of Royal Bank of Scotland before joining Aviva.

Nusa Dua (Indonesia), Dec 5 : President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia could call Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to break the impasse at the ongoing World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations that have been stuck over India’s stance on food subsidy.

"It [the call] is being planned," said Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan.

The Jakarta Post newspaper quoted presidential spokesman Teuku Faizasyah also as saying that the president's call was aimed at easing India’s inflexibility over the issue.
