India invites South Korean president for visit

park-geun-hyeSeoul/New Delhi, July 2 : India Tuesday told South Korea there was "enormous goodwill in India" for that country as India's National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon called on South Korean President Park Guen-hye in Seoul.

Menon, on an official visit to Seoul, handed over a personal letter from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to South Korea's first woman president. Manmohan Singh has invited President Park to India, which she has accepted.

The dates are to be worked out through diplomatic channels, said a statement from the Indian embassy at Seoul.

Indian satellite's orbit to be raised Tuesday night

ISROChennai, July 2 : Indian space agency ISRO will around midnight Tuesday carry out activities to raise the orbit of its first navigation satellite, Indian Regional Navigation Satellite-1A (IRNSS-1A), launched Monday night, said an official.

"The first orbit raising maneouvers will be carried out today (Tuesday) around midnight to take the satellite by firing its onboard motors towards its geo-synchronous orbit at 36,000 km," the official told IANS on the condition of anonymity.

Telecom Commission approves 100 percent FDI in sector

Department-of-TelecommunicationNew Delhi, July 2 : The Telecom Commission Tuesday approved 100 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) in the telecom sector.

A Department of Telecom (DoT) official said the department will send a detailed note to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), which will subsequently forward it to the cabinet for approval.

Raising the FDI limit from the current 74 percent will help in flushing fresh funds into the sector.

Ajit Singh defends Jet-Etihad deal

"Those opposing the deal are long on politics and short on facts," Ajit Singh told reporters when asked about the widespread opposition to the deal.

"It is such an important deal, the first big deal in civil aviation ministry. In terms of FDI, it is bigger than any other deal this year. There are so many dimensions to it," Ajit Singh said.
