There are `vested interests' in questioning the quality of Indian drugs, the commerce & industry ministry argued on Monday.

Defending the domestic pharma industry, the ministry said that vested interests were digging up isolated issue on reports about technical deficiencies on manufacturing practices.

It added that some of the forged drugs found in the international markets were desperate attempts of countries that were failing to compete with India in the pharma sector.

Panaji, June 4 : Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Tuesday welcomed the Central Information Commission (CIC) ruling that political parties come under the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, paving the way for a legislation in this regard.

"It is a good thing," Parrikar told reporters here.

The chief minister said that on an average a political party in Goa needs around Rs. 40 lakh annually to function and for organisational expenses.

"For a political party, it is okay to take donations, but not (in exchange) for getting work done," Parrikar said.

Washington, June 4 : A recent study has shown that dimming the brightness of lit devices like smartphones and tablets could facilitate a good night's sleep.

The study by research group Mayo Clinic suggests that dimming the smartphone or tablet brightness and holding the device at least 14 inches from the face while using it can reduce its potential to interfere with melatonin and impede sleep, reports Science Daily.

Melatonin is a hormone that helps control the natural sleep-wake cycle.

Paris, June 4 : Russia's Maria Kirilenko beat Bethanie Mattek-Sands in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals of the French Open.

It took Kirilenko, the world No. 12, more than two hours for the 7-5, 6-4 victory Monday, reaching her first-ever quarterfinal at Roland Garros.

The Russian started the match down 0-3, but managed to pull out the first set despite five double faults and 17 unforced errors.

New Delhi, June 4 : India's homegrown networking site WorldFloat has started a new gaming feature that allows users to make money, even as plans are afoot for another add-on to help people source money from large numbers of people for their projects.

Founder of WorldFloat. com Pushkar Mahatta said the new feature called "treasure hunt" was already gaining popularity among users in India as well as in other countries.

He said the games offered at the WorldFloat site were skill-based, and one can make up to Rs. 10,000. "These are not chance-based. You get to make more money, if you spend more time and have the skills."
