Global car sales by South Korean companies rise

Hyundai-Car-SalesSeoul, June 3 : Global auto sales by South Korean carmakers increased last month as strong overseas demand offset negative effects from the devaluation of the Japanese yen, industry data showed Monday.

The country's five automakers, including Hyundai, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Samsung and Ssangyong, sold a total of 746,444 vehicles in May, up 7.5 percent from a year earlier. The car sales rose 0.5 percent from the prior month.

IndiGo to buy 28 Airbus aircraft this year and next

Airbus-A320 New Delhi, June 3 : Budget carrier IndiGo Monday said it has been permitted by the government to import 28 Airbus A320 aircraft in 2013 and 2014.

"The additional aircraft will enable IndiGo to take its low fare and hassle-free service to more customers and enable stronger connectivity within India and abroad," the airline said in a statement.

Currently, IndiGo holds the largest domestic market share at 29.8 percent as of April 2013.

The airline provides 422 flights connecting 33 destinations with a fleet of 66 Airbus A320 aircraft.

Karunanidhi began the day by cutting a birthday cake at his residence in Gopalapuram area here with close aides and family members cheering him on. He also planted a tree at his other residence in CIT Colony here.

As is his usual practice on birthdays, Karunanidhi paid tributes at the memorials of DMK founder and fomer chief minister C. N. Annadurai and E. V. K. Periyar, who founded the Dravida Kazhagam from which the DMK emerged.
