Rawalpindi doctors say they were forced to remain mum over Benazir’s death

Benazir BhuttoRawalpindi, Jan 1 : Authorities in Pakistan have forced the doctors who attended assassinated ex-premier Benazir Bhutto during her last hours in hospital to remain mum and have even wiped the records of her treatment, the Washington Post has said.

One of the doctors said that the moment Benazir’s death was read out, the Musharraf regime "took all the medical records right after that."

He further complained that it was a disgrace for them, as they were "told by the government to stop talking."

The medical staff of the Rawalpindi General Hospital have mostly remained quiet after the incident, but have said that it was a terrible position for their profession that caught them into a "very emotional and political issue."

Babar Awan, a top functionary in the Benazir’s Pakistan People’s Party said that he had identified two clearly defined bullet wounds -- entry and exit points.

Awan further said that the principal professor of surgery at the hospital, Muhammad Mussadiq Khan, was "extremely nervous", but he later on "told me that Benazir had died of a bullet wound."

"He (Khan) told me firsthand he was under pressure not to talk about how she died," the Washington Post quoted Awan, as saying.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Government has apologised over making statement that Benazir didn’t die of bullet or the terror attack. (ANI)
