Bus crash kills 9 in southern Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur  - A total of nine people were killed and 19 injured when a bus went out of control and overturned along a major highway in Malaysia's southern state of Johor early Sunday.

The pain had aggravated so much that a local doctor was called to give him three jabs to reduce the pain.

SRK to help develop local film industry in Malacca

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 7 : Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who became the first Indian actor to be conferred on a prestigious Malaysian title, has agreed to help Malacca in developing local film industry and scout the state for movie locations.

The 43-year-old said that a team from Mumbai would visit Malacca sometime next August or September to explore locations for movies.

“There is a film I am planning to shoot some time in August and Sep­tember and I will send a team to look around Malacca,” The Star Online quoted him, as saying at a press conference after receiving his Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM) from Governor Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob at a ceremony in Ayer Keroh yesterday.

Four killed, eight missing in Malaysian landslideKuala Lumpur  - Four people have been killed and eight others are missing in a pre-dawn landslide Saturday that buried 14 bungalows in a Malaysian residential area, police said.

Rescue and search operations involving 160 people have been on- going since the landslide occurred at the up-market residential area in the central Selangor state, said state police chief Khalid Abu Bakar.

A total of 93 people escaped unscathed in the incident, while 15 others suffered injuries, Khalid was quoted as saying by the Star online news portal.

Malaysian airport police arrest woman with cocaine-soaked towels

Kuala Lumpur  - Malaysian airport police have detained a woman for suspected drug trafficking after she was caught carrying 10 towels soaked in liquid cocaine, news reports said Saturday.

Police declined to name the woman's nationality, but said the foreigner had arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport from Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Thursday and was headed to Thailand.

Airport officials said the 36-year-old suspect was behaving suspiciously and was made to open her two suitcases.

"When a police team asked her to open them, seven wet towels were found in the first bag and three more in the second.

Pirates rob coal barge in Malaysian waters

Malaysia FlagKuala Lumpur - Ten pirates wielding machetes and knives robbed a coal barge in waters off Kuantan on Malaysia's east coast, a news report said Friday.

The ship, which was travelling from Singapore to Thailand, was intercepted and boarded late Monday by the pirates, who travelled in two speedboats, district police chief Johari Jahaya said.

The pirates stole cash and mobile phones from the crew - who were mostly Indonesians - before vanishing without injuring anyone, Johari told the official Bernama news agency.

Crew members lodged a police report on the incident on Wednesday.
