Sony Pictures Television is expected to unveil “a slate of eight new mobile games” at the CTIA (Cellular Telephone Industries Association) 2009 convention in Las Vegas today. Sony Pictures has announced that it is planning to release the games, which are based on some of the Sony's feature films, television shows, and PlayStation Portable system games, from May to December this year.
Sony Pictures senior EVP Sean Carey said, "We are extremely proud of this slate and thrilled to offer our mobile partners more of the high-quality games they've come to expect from us and that consumers love to play.”
Sony Pictures has stated that slate of eight new mobile games will be released first, but the company will add some more titles, which haven’t been announced yet, to the line up. According to Sony, the new titles include Angels & Demons, Ghostbusters, Q*Bert, 007 returns, Sports Illustrated, Zombieland, 2012 The Mobile Game, and Voltron.
The launch of Angels & Demons is coinciding with the release of the same title film based on Dan Brown's novel Angels & Demons, which is slated to be released on May 15th, 2009. Customized for iPhone, Ghostbusters, in which New York is facing a ghost invasion and Ghostbusters are out there to save, is scheduled for June release.
Q*Bert, the game featuring colorful, lovable and jumpy arcade character of the 1980s, will be released for iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android devices, will be released in July. Specially developed for iPhone, the exciting secret agent game – 007 returns in Top Agent will be released in August.
Sports Illustrated and Zombieland will be released in October. Sports Illustrated, featuring swimsuit models, is a nouveau game for the real sports fan that allows the gamers to test their knowledge of sports stats and history. Zombieland takes the gamers to a dangerous world overpowered by the walking dead. The release of Zombieland games coincides with the release of the “Zombieland” movie.
2012: The Mobile Game, the action game, in which gamers combat to control four destructive forces of nature - windstorm, earthquake, firestorm, and hurricane, will be released in November. Voltron, an action game, featuring the 1980's retro classic series characters, will be released in December.
According to Sony Pictures, the new games will join with this year’s already released SPT games, including LocoRoco Hi, based on the successful PSP game, LocoRoco; Jeopardy! For Prizes and Jeopardy! Live, based on America's favorite quiz show; and Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! versions developed specially for the iPhone.
