Netbooks not suitable for photo editing, report says

Hamburg  - Computers from the relatively new "netbook" category are best suited to surfing the internet while on the go, experts agree.

They are far less effective for processor-intensive tasks like photo and video editing, reports Hamburg-based Computer Bild following a recent test of eight current netbook models.

The hardware in the devices is designed to work for as long as possible away from a wall socket - not for high performance. That rules out netbooks for extensive audio editing and 3D games as well. Most netbooks do perform well enough to allow reasonably speedy internet and office work. Computer Bild awarded top marks to the Akoya Mini E1210 MD96888 from Medion, followed by the Asus Eee PC 1000H and the MSI U100-Wind 1616XP Luxury. (dpa)
