A latest study, published in journal PLoS Medicine Wednesday issue has revealed that the sugar industry played an active role in shaping the National Institute of Health's efforts to decrease the dental cavities in the 1960s and 1970s.

According to the study, the internal industry documents have revealed that the industry, since 1950, was aware of the fact that sugar caused tooth decay but pushed the government researchers to focus on the prevention strategies other than reducing sugar consumption.

The study said the industry funded the research on enzymes to break up dental plaque and vaccines against tooth decay, in order to divert the attention from the simpler strategy of telling Americans to avoid sugary drinks and snacks.

Heart experts usually recommend people to avoid fatty diet to reduce the risk of heart diseases. However, a new study has revealed that heart health is further exacerbated by stress and depression. Published in the journal Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, the study has claimed that stress and depression have a great potential to cause serious damage to your heart.

A new study by scientists from the Loma Linda University has revealed that vegetarians are at lower risk of developing colorectal cancer than non-vegetarians.

The study claimed that a vegetarian diet offers significant protection against cancers of the colon and rectum, which is the second-leading cause of cancer death in the United States after lung cancer.

The findings emerged from the university's multimillion-dollar Adventist Health Study-2 investigation that links diet to specific forms of cancer.

The study led by Dr. Michael Orlich, a specialist in family and preventative medicine, also claimed that pescovegetarians or vegetarians who eat fish had a 43% lower risk of colon or rectal cancer than non-vegetarians.
