Yeti, an ape-like cryptid taller than an average human, has been a mystery for researchers for a long time. Earlier, some researchers had claimed that they discovered the Himalayan species of bear. They carried out a mitochondrial DNA sequence to analyze the fossil hair. They found that the samples were similar to fossil of 400,000 years old polar bear.

Now, a group of researchers has challenged the previous discovery. Reanalysis of the hair showed that hair belongs to a polar bear that lives in Alaska. According to the researchers, due to genetic difference in brown bear, it was difficult to connect the hair sample with bears.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that Pacific Ocean waters off the West Coast are still warm, which means that marine animals like salmon, sea lion pups and auklets will have reduced food supply this year.

The federal agency focused on the condition of the oceans and the atmosphere submitted the reports this month to the Pacific Fishery Management Council. According to the report, sea-surface temperatures are record high and they will affect the productive ocean conditions. The report has observed a decline in the population of copepods, an important food source for young salmon.

For the first time, scientists are able to control mid-air movements of living, free-flying insects. The scientists took help of a radio transmitter and a miniature backpack of electronics to control takeoff and land, fly to the right or left. They also used all these equipment to hover in mid-flight relying on the radio commands.

According to the scientists, if the technology is further refined, it could be possible in the future to make use of flying insects as miniature drones loaded with tiny electronic sensors for flying over. It could also be used for searching difficult terrain or search-and-rescue missions.

The Smithsonian National Zoo is seeking help from public to suggest name of its two Andean bear cubs. The zoo asked public for help because the staff wants to name the cubs before unveiling them to the public on March 28.

Dennis Kelly, director of the National Zoo, said that by inviting everyone to select the cubs’ names, they hope that they would develop a connection of public with this charismatic but vulnerable species.

“Bear conservation efforts are vital for bears in their native habitats. I'm proud of our success in the past five years, which has been a combination of cooperative animals and keeper expertise”, he said.

A live video camera is recording a pair of bald eagles nesting in Hays round the clock for second straight year. As per officials, this time it is completely a different story.

In 2014, 'Eagle Cam' watchers were keeping an eye on the nesting pair in Hays as they raised their three healthy eaglets. This past Saturday, it was seen that the male eagle was removing the shells of a broken egg from this year's nest.

The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania said that the egg might have cracked when the mother eagle was moving it with its beak. Audubon Executive Director Jim Bonner, at Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, said that it can happen, as sometimes eggs turn out to be infertile or lost.

On Tuesday, Sony announced that the company's net profit for the third quarter of 2014 was more than three times compared to net profit for the same period, a year earlier. The company also said that it was on course to experience annual loss.

According to the company, the improvement is due to weak yen, increased sales of the company's smartphones, strong demand for image sensors for cameras and robust PlayStation console businesses. Sony further stated, "It was primarily related to Sony's exit from the PC business, and a decrease in sales in the Pictures segment, mainly due to lower Motion Pictures and Television Productions sales."
