Study claims e-Cigarettes far less harmful than cigarettes

e-CigarettesWashington, June 17 : A new study has revealed that consumption of e-cigarettes is much less harmful than cigarettes, with alcohol being the most dangerous substance. Lawrence D. Phillips, a researcher from London School of Economics at a conference of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), presented the relative risks of different drugs at Advances in Decision Analysis and said that e-cigarettes should be classified as a device for fighting nicotine addiction.

Phillips also concluded it by saying that how people smoke due to addiction of nicotine but instead they end up dying.

Apple avoids $840M claim, settling issue out of court

AppleWashington, June 17 : The iPhone maker, Apple has reportedly agreed to settle out of court with consumers who claimed that the company is conspiring to raise the price of e-books.

Attorney Steve Berman, who represented the plaintiffs, had argued that Apple should pay $840 million, or triple the amount he estimated the company gained from hiking ebook prices. The trial was set to go to court next month, The Verge reported.

However the terms of the settlement have not been made public.

The US Department of Justice sued Apple and five other publishers in April 2012, accusing them of working together illegally to raise e-book prices.

There are no heroes in 'Ek Villain', says Shraddha Kapoor

Binary stars more common than earlier believed

Binary-starsWashington, June 17 : Bochum's astronomers at the Ruhr-Universitat's (RUB's) observatory in Chile found out that high-mass stars are rarely solitary.

For several years, they observed 800 celestial objects that are up to one hundred times heavier than our Sun. More than 90 percent have turned out to be multiple systems.

These data support the theory that heavy stars are already formed as twins.

Even with the world's largest telescopes, binary stars cannot generally be distinguished as two discrete points.

Govt imposes $300/tonne MEP on onion exports to check price

onion-exportsNew Delhi: Concerned over rising onion rates, the government on Tuesday imposed a minimum export price (MEP) of USD 300 per tonne on the kitchen staple to curb overseas sales and check retail prices.

Onion prices have risen to about Rs 25-30 per kg in the national capital from Rs 15-20 per kg a fortnight ago.

The MEP, which is the rate below which no exports are allowed, has been re-introduced barely three months after the previous government in March had abolished it.

Export of all onion varieties will be subject to MEP of USD 300 per tonne, commerce ministry said in a notification.
