Former Tesco chairman MacLaurin criticises LeahyFormer Tesco chairman and chief executive officer, Lord MacLaurin has now criticised the person he once appointed as his predecessor to lead Tesco, Sir Terry Leahy.

MacLaurin had appointed Leahy as Tesco's chief executive officer in 1997 but now said that he is sad to see the legacy left behind by Leahy, who headed the company for a period of 13 years. He noted that the supermarket chain failed to expand successfully in the US market as the company plans to exit its venture in the key retail market.

PM sets target for major infrastructure projects for 2013-14

Manmohan-SinghNew Delhi, June 28 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday set targets for development of key infrastructure projects, including airports, ports, roads and power generation in the current financial year.

Specific targets were set for various sectors at a high-level meeting attended by ministers of finance, railways, road transport and highways, shipping, civil aviation, power and coal among others.

The targets included setting up of two new international airports at Bhubaneswar and Imphal and 50 new low-cost small airports in different parts of the country.

PetrolNew Delhi, June 28 : Petrol prices will go up by Rs. 1.82 per litre, excluding taxes, from midnight Friday due to the fall in the value of the rupee and hardening of crude prices in international market, state-run Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) said.

"Since the last price change, the downwards slide of rupee has continued and USD-INR exchange rate has deteriorated to Rs. 58.94 per the US dollar during the fortnight. Further, international MS prices have also increased since the last price change," the country's largest oil marketing firm said.

Airports Authority to develop 50 new low-cost airports

Airports-Authority-IndiaNew Delhi, June 28 : State-owned Airports Authority of India will develop 50 new low-cost airports across 11 states.

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the decision was taken at a meeting held by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to finalise infrastructure project targets for 2013-14.

Apart from 50 new low cost small airports, the government has decided to go ahead with eight greenfield airports which will developed under public private partnership (PPP) mode.
