Australian retailers accused for using low cost labour in BangladeshA number of retailers in Australia have been accused of underpaying their suppliers in Bangladesh forcing them to exploit low cost labour in the country by not offering a safe working environment.

Retailers including Coles, Target, Cotton On and Forever New are among the retailers that have been accused of using low-cost labour in Bangladesh. A factory had collapsed in April in the south Asian country that has claimed more than 1100 lives, exposing the unsafe conditions for working in the factories in the country.

Sensex rebounds 88 points; ONGC, RIL climb

Bombay-Stock-ExchangeMumbai, June 25 : Indian equities markets benchmark indices rebounded Tuesday, with the benchmark Sensex rising 88 points led by strong buying support in oil and gas and FMCG stocks.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened in the positive at 18,602.25 points, closed at 18629.15 points, up 0.48 percent or 88.26 points, from its previous day close at 18,540.89 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 18,802.31 points and a low of 18,487.30 points in the intra-day trade.

Kerry heads for Saudi Arabia after India visit

John-KerryNew Delhi, June 25 : US Secretary of State John Kerry headed for Saudi Arabia Tuesday after his three-day official visit to India.

Kerry had arrived on Sunday to co-chair the fourth round of the India-US Strategic Dialogue. He held talks with External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Monday as part of the annual dialogue and also met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday evening.

On Tuesday morning, he co-chaired the India-US Higher Education dialogue with Human Resource Development Minister M. M. Pallam Raju during which he said India and the US have the capacity to lead global education.

DoT to slap Rs.650 crore penalty on Bharti Airtel

Bharti-AirtelNew Delhi, June 25 : The Department of Telecom (DoT) has decided to slap a Rs. 650 crore penalty on Bharti Airtel for violating roaming norms in 13 circles between 2003-2005.

It is learnt that Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal has approved the penalty and a notice to the company will be issued this week.

The telecom service provider will be charged Rs. 50 crore for each circle for routing national and international calls as local calls till 2005, although it was asked to stop this in 2003. The company's action had caused losses to the government exchequer and the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL).
