Toronto, June 13 : With research showing South Asians being among the people most susceptible to heart diseases in Canada, a walk is being organised in the city of Edmonton to create awareness about the issue.

South Asians in Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta, will participate in the DIL Walk coming Saturday which will feature a free lunch, doctors on hand to check blood pressure, and advice from dieticians.

The event is being organised by the DIL Walk Foundation to create awareness about heart diseases and a healthy lifestyle.

Panaji, June 13 : The Prime Minister's Office will do everything possible to ensure that mining, currently banned in Goa on a Supreme Court ruling, is resumed in the state at the earliest, an aide of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Thursday.

A Goa government official said Thursday that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed regret over the plight of people affected by the ban on mining since September last year.

"The prime minister stated that he was aware of the problems caused by the mining ban, and would do everything in his power to have legal mining commenced within the four corners of law," the official said.

The 163-year-old service of telegram will come to an abrupt end on July 15th, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) confirmed on Wednesday.

R. K. Upadhyay, chairman & managing director of state-owned telecommunications giant, said that the telegram service was no more relevant as new technologies like mobile phones and emails had become ubiquitous.

Speaking on the topic, Mr. Upadhyay said, "The service is no more relevant because of new technologies. It was a loss-making business for us."

The government's new pricing regime for domestic natural gas is being mainly opposed by import lobbies as increasing imports of the fuel means bigger profits for these lobbies, Petroleum minister M Veerappa Moily said.

The government has plans to revise gas prices, but the plan has been facing severe criticism from the very beginning. A few weeks back, CPI senior leader Gurudas Dasgupta termed the plan as a big "scam in the making" and a move to benefit Reliance Industries.
