Health awareness walk for South Asians in Canada

heartToronto, June 13 : With research showing South Asians being among the people most susceptible to heart diseases in Canada, a walk is being organised in the city of Edmonton to create awareness about the issue.

South Asians in Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta, will participate in the DIL Walk coming Saturday which will feature a free lunch, doctors on hand to check blood pressure, and advice from dieticians.

The event is being organised by the DIL Walk Foundation to create awareness about heart diseases and a healthy lifestyle.

Goa-miningPanaji, June 13 : The Prime Minister's Office will do everything possible to ensure that mining, currently banned in Goa on a Supreme Court ruling, is resumed in the state at the earliest, an aide of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Thursday.

A Goa government official said Thursday that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed regret over the plight of people affected by the ban on mining since September last year.

"The prime minister stated that he was aware of the problems caused by the mining ban, and would do everything in his power to have legal mining commenced within the four corners of law," the official said.

Speaking on the topic, Mr. Upadhyay said, "The service is no more relevant because of new technologies. It was a loss-making business for us."
